Natural cedar shingles or polymer shingles? Here’s all you need to know.
Exterior siding plays an important role in the beauty of your home, but it is also a key element in protecting it from all that Mother Nature sends our way. There are two options that come up regularly when choosing shingle looking siding: natural wood such as cedar or polymer shingles such as Cedar Impressions products. In this article, we will examine the different advantages of polymer cladding.
Cedar Impressions products are made of high-performing polymer and perfectly mimic the natural appearance of cedar at various stages of life, from the look of freshly-cut cedar to a more weathered, rustic state. Polymer shingles are durable, weather resistant and can be purchased in a wide variety of colours, stains and widths to help you achieve the desired look you crave. Natural cedar, being subject to weather elements, requires regular maintenance to preserve its appearance and durability unlike its polymer counterpart.
Made of polymer, Cedar Impressions products are resistant to rot and warping from moisture, unlike natural wood which can deteriorate and crack over time. They are also resistant to termites and weevils, which can cause significant damage to natural wood.
The Cedar Impressions collections of cladding are easy to maintain. Unlike natural wood, which must be painted or stained after a few years to protect its beauty and durability. Cedar Impressions products do not need to be painted or stained. They can simply be cleaned with water and mild soap. A significant saving of time and money.
As mentioned earlier, Cedar Impressions products are available in a wide variety of colours, shades and styles, which means they perfectly mimic the look of authentic cedar. They are also easy to install and can be cut and trimmed to fit any home.
In summary, Cedar Impressions products offer many advantages over natural cedar siding:
- High performance that stands the test of time
- Does not require paint or stain
- Resistant to pests / insects.
- Low maintenance, no annual upkeep
